A Step-By-Step Guide to Testamentary CGAs

Join us on Thursday, February 12, at 12:00 p.m. for a webinar that will provide a step-by-step practical guide of how to assist a donor in crafting a testamentarily-funded charitable gift annuity.  Two funding sources will be covered: (a) via a will/trust and (b) via a beneficiary designation (such as from an IRA).  Sample suggested wording and a sample memorandum of understanding will be provided and discussed in detail. 

Learning Objectives: 

  • Understand how to structure a testamentary charitable gift annuity using a will, trust, or beneficiary designation.
  • Draft clear and effective CGA language, including addressing unknown annuitant details and selecting annuity rates.
  • Navigate key administrative steps after the donor’s death, including charity notification, partial distributions, and contract execution.

About the Speaker

Andrew Fussner
VP of Estate Settlement, American Heart Association

Andrew Fussner currently serves as the national Vice President of Estate Settlement for the American Heart Association and oversees the administration of $85 to $110 million in bequest assets annually for the organization.  He is based in St. Petersburg, Florida.  Before assuming his current role, he served in several planned giving roles with the AHA; and before joining the AHA, he was an attorney with the Tampa office of a large, national law firm.  He specialized in estate planning, probate/trust administration, and tax law.  He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the ACGA.  He holds a law degree, a B.S. in Accounting, and a B.A. in Political Science - all from the University of Florida.
