Fun Facts About Angela
When did you first learn about Charitable Gift Annuities?
I first learned about charitable gift annuities about 1 month into my new job at The Columbus Foundation as a Gift Planning Officer when I was on point to help a donor with her third CGA at the Foundation. I had great support from the team, and it was a great way to learn about them and to learn why donors love CGAs.
Tell us about your favorite charitable gift annuity you worked on.
I was working with an attorney who was administering an estate of one of our planned gift donors and in his Will, he left a monthly amount to be given to a friend for the remainder of that friend’s life, and The Columbus Foundation was the remainder beneficiary of his estate. The attorney was trying to figure out how much to set aside and who would administer a “trust” that would distribute the monthly sum to the beneficiary. We were able to set up a Charitable Gift Annuity that would pay the friend the monthly sum for the remainder of their life with anything remaining to go to the fund the donor set up. This allowed us to put the charitable dollars to work to meet the donor’s charitable goals while also taking care of the life income beneficiary without the need of a trust or trustee and meeting everyone’s needs.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love to help donors figure out what legacy they want to leave and how to do that in the most effective way. I love using everything that I learned in my years as an estate planning and tax attorney to help amazing people make our community and world a better place.
What is your favorite way to get in some exercise?
My favorite way to get in some exercise is to play tennis, both clinics and matches. Of course, too much tennis leads to my second favorite way to get in exercise which is Pilates.
