Fun Facts About Renee
When did you secure your first charitable gift annuity?
I closed my first Charitable Gift Annuity while working at the Seattle Repertory Theatre. I remember feeling so lost in the tax benefits and was grateful to have our consultant from Planned Giving Services, Alison O’Carroll, with me to guide the conversation. My favorite memory of the conversation was how proud the donor was to be able to do more “like all the major donors” for our theatre. That interaction also taught me I did not have to have all the answers – just someone I could trust that did. Alison continued to be my mentor even after I left the Rep and I had the added benefit of working for her when I moved to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.
Name one cool feature you would add to your dream house.
I would love a cozy window seat to use as a reading nook overlooking our yard or neighborhood.
Where is your favorite vacation spot?
The Oregon Coast, especially Cannon Beach, is my happy place! No matter the weather, it is an absolutely beautiful spot. Added bonus – my cellphone does not get great reception on that beach!
What’s one piece of advice you wish you’d gotten sooner?
Be yourself! When I first started as a fundraiser, I was not as authentic with donors and colleagues as I am now. Coming as you are allows you to connect with your organization’s supporters. As a manager, I feel coming as my whole self to work sets the right example and tone for my team.
